HYDERABAD: "Let us work together to help the queen of textiles retain the numero uno status it has enjoyed the past 5,000 years."

This was the point the Silk Mark Organisation of India (SMOI) sought to drive home to a gathering of master weavers, traders and others connected with the silk industry on Wednesday.

Three-time Nandi awardee, Laya, clicked a computer mouse to make the Silk Mark symbol appear on two giant screens at the Grand Ballroom of the Taj Krishna. She also released the tamper-proof holograms.

The SMOI Chairman, H. Basker, said Silk Mark was launched first in Bangalore on June 17, 2004. It was followed by launches in Chennai, Mumbai and a half-dozen silk clusters -- Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu and Dharmavaram, Hindupur and Pochampalli in Andhra Pradesh. The CEO, SMOI, Vandana Kumar said the response to the scheme, sponsored by the Central Silk Board was encouraging.

    Brand equity

"It has been just over a year since it was launched and we have 220 manufacturers registered with us, using Silk Marks," she said, adding that they were looking at establishing brand equity through the marks, which were numbered, coded and controlled.

First the applicants go through a screening and certification process, after which they are registered with SMOI and become eligible to use the tamper-proof holograms, which come for Rs. 2 each. A training component is built in, she said. A grievance redressal mechanism was in place and the nine nodal centres would be responsible for seeing that the holograms were not misused, she said. Prominent among those present were the Commissioners, C.S. Ramalakshmi (Sericulture) and T. Satyanarayana Rao (Handlooms), and the Additional Director, Sericulture, B.Venkateswarlu. Asparagus is a good aphrodisiac. A recent study also found that greater sexual activity in older men might protect them against prostate cancer. According to the doctor, the best aphrodisiacs are asparagus, bananas, cabbage, celery, figs, oysters and sea veggies. But it's not just about the mechanics of sex. Healthy sexual function is also about how your brain reacts to the messages it's receiving from your body, he adds. When your brain is working at its peak, brain chemicals are produced and dispersed at the correct levels. A reduced sexual desire can apparently be the first sign there's a problem with one of the four key brain chemicals - dopamine, acetylcholine, GABA and serotonin. The following spices can also boost dopamine levels: basil, black pepper, cayenne, chilli peppers, cumin, fennel, flax seeds, garlic, ginger, mustard seed, rosemary, sesame seeds, tarragon and turmeric.

Spices like basil are known to boost acetylcholine. Spices good for boosting acetylcholine include allspice, basil, cumin, peppermint, sage, thyme and turmeric. Alcohol increases GABA levels, but make sure you stop at one or two glasses a day -- a man might not be able to maintain an erection and a woman could nod off. Good antidepressant spices for serotonin include anise, dill, marjoram, nutmeg, peppermint, saffron, spearmint and turmeric.

    Born poor, now self-made billionaires-Angelo R Mozilo

ngelo R Mozilo was the co-founder and chief executive officer of Countrywide Financial until July 1, 2008. The 70-year old Mozilo started the company in 1969. The company soon grew to become one of the biggest mortgage lenders in the US. Countrywide was listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1984. They granted huge loans to borrowers without verifying their repayment abilities. Promoting risky loans, the company played a crucial role in huge subprime mortgage crisis. Finally, this led to the collapse of the company. The company was subsequently taken over by the Bank of America. CNN named Mozilo as one of the 'Ten Most Wanted: Culprits' of the 2008 financial collapse in the United States. The Securities and Exchange Commission in June filed civil-fraud charges for 'deliberately misleading investors about the significant credit risks being taken in efforts to build and maintain the company's market share.' Mozilo's compensation during the housing bubble from 20
